Sleeping on your side or stomach is indeed a factor of premature aging. Georgy Kabulov, a cosmetologist at Damas Medical Center's Center for Innovative Medicine, warned about this in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

"If this or that position of the body during sleep causes excessive tension of the skin or, on the contrary, collects it in folds, it becomes an additional trigger for wrinkles in the décolleté area, on the neck and face. And the less elasticity of the skin, the more obvious this effect becomes," explained the specialist.

According to the cosmetologist, sleeping on the side can affect not only the formation of wrinkles, but also other age-related skin changes. Among them is the loss of volume on the side of the face on which a person sleeps more often.

"Any cosmetic surgeon can determine which side of the face is more often exposed to pressure during sleep, as the natural asymmetry increases," he pointed out, adding that in the case of fillers, this point requires an individualized approach when injecting the product to achieve harmony and symmetry of facial features.

The cosmetologist advised sleeping on the back to reduce the risk of sleep-related skin problems. He emphasized that it is important to find the optimal position of the head. For example, too high a position can cause the chin to droop and the neck to wrinkle. In turn, too flat a position leads to waking up with puffy eyes due to the accumulation of fluid and lymph in the upper part of the body.

The expert also recommended the use of orthopedic pillows. He stated that they have special recesses and rollers that unload the neck and support the head anatomically correct. Pillowcases made of satin, satin and silk will also help fight wrinkles and acne, he concluded.

Earlier, December 14, orthopedist of the clinic "Treat" Natalia Nefedova said that the optimal height of the pillow for women is 10-13 cm, for men - 13-15 cm. The doctor added that the pillow should be changed every two to three years.
