A plane crash in Aktau kills 38 people

As a result of the airplane crash in Aktau 38 people were killed. This was reported on December 25 by Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev to .

"The bodies are in poor condition, mostly burned, all collected, now in the morgue will be, there will be identification," he said in an interview with the Kazakh portal Tengrinews.kz.

Bozumbayev also specified that there are no Kazakhs among the survivors, except perhaps a woman unconscious in the hospital. Her documents have not been found.

A passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), traveling on the route Baku - Grozny, crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau earlier in the day. The crew attempted to make an emergency landing at the city's airport, but the plane went down and caught fire. Preliminarily, the cause of the plane's fall could have been a collision with a flock of birds.

The passenger list of AZAL includes 62 passengers and five crew members. According to the latest data, nine Russians were hospitalized. The Russian Emergencies Ministry's special airplane will take Russian citizens injured in the crash to Moscow on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Bozumbayev came to visit the victims of the plane crash. At the hospital, he inquired about the condition of the injured passengers and promised to provide them with all the necessary medicines.

A criminal case has been opened under the article "Violation of safety rules in the operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence". Search and rescue operations continue at the site of the tragedy. Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation is completed. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared December 26 a day of mourning in the republic for the victims of the plane crash.
