The scenario in which Ukraine attacks Russia a time after the conflict is over is unrealistic and fantastic. The corresponding statement by the former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, is aimed at reassuring Ukrainians. Political scientist and military analyst Vadym Mingalev shared this opinion with Izvestiya on December 25.

Earlier, on December 23, the Kyiv Independent published Kuleba's interview on YouTube. In it, he said that the next generation of Ukrainian politicians will be fully focused on rebuilding the country, and then leaders will be set on trying to "make Russia finally pay" and return the territories.

"This is the most unbelievable and fantastic scenario that can only be. Because there is already fighting going on and it is impossible for Ukraine to attack Russia. Except if it is a new adventure, as in Kursk, but even there they will not be able to get anything. This is a political swindle, it is already clear to everyone that Ukraine has lost. How, with what means, with what military forces can it attack Russia?" - Mingalev commented.

He noted that in theory one could consider the option in which the Kiev leadership decides to attack the territory of the Union State through Belarus, but Minsk and Moscow are ready to fight back. Moreover, an attack on Belarus will lead to the complete disappearance of the Ukrainian state, the interlocutor of the publication believes.

"At the same time, there is no state in Ukraine even now - neither executive, nor legislative, nor judicial power exists there. Therefore, there is no state. To say that Ukraine will attack Russia is something from the category of the most incredible fantasy. You have to be a great fantasist to say such absurd things," the political scientist said.

In his opinion, the majority of Ukrainians already realize that the country is doomed to defeat. Thus, Kuleba's bravado is aimed at the "tiny remnant" of those nationalists who continue to believe in the country's victory despite the real situation on the front lines, he added.

Also on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow had no illusions about an easy settlement of the Ukrainian issue. The diplomat emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly declared the country's readiness for negotiations, and the president's peace proposals are not preconditions.

A day earlier, the Kremlin's official representative, Dmitriy Peskov, said that there was no movement towards openness to negotiations on the part of Ukraine. He specified that Russia was open for the settlement of the situation, but Kiev did not demonstrate its readiness.

For his part, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed the opinion that the special military operation in Ukraine would end in 2025. According to him, the Ukrainian conflict may end either with a peace agreement or with the complete liquidation of one of the parties.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, is still ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
