Russia has announced pre-trial claims against Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia over discrimination against Russians in these countries. This was announced by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on December 25.

"Pre-trial claims have already been declared to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in connection with the gross violation of the rights of Russians," Zakharova said.

According to her, all available international judicial mechanisms will be used against the states that discriminate on their territories.

Zakharova added that the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 1965 offers opportunities for this.

Earlier, on October 30, Zakharova reported on pre-trial claims of the Russian Federation against Latvia for discrimination against Russians. She specified that violations of the Convention on the Prohibition of Racial Discrimination by the authorities of the republic are expressed in the infringed status of Russians as non-citizens, the prohibition of education in Russian language in Latvia and its ousting from all spheres of public life.
