Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday, December 25, that Moldovan President Maya Sandu's claim that the country's authorities do not speak Russian to the population enough is cynicism and lies.

"This is off the scale cynicism, and it is inhuman lying, because cynicism and lying are things related to each other," she commented on Sandu's words.

The diplomat also compared the Moldovan leader with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20), who during the election campaign also pointed out the need to speak to the population in Russian.

Earlier, on December 19, Sandu said at the final press conference that the Moldovan government did not pay due attention to communication with Russian-speaking citizens. She promised to rectify the situation next year and to make more frequent visits to Gagauzia, where the Russian language is widespread.
