- Zakharova called provocations about the possible dispatch of EU troops to Ukraine a provocation

Throws about the European Union (EU) sending troops to Ukraine are aimed at aggravating the conflict, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said in response to a question from Izvestiya. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said this on Wednesday, December 25, when answering Izvestiya's question.
"We proceed from the fact that <...> the throw-ins in the information space on the issue of sending foreign contingents to Ukraine are provocative. The goals of these provocations may be different, but in form, of course, and in essence, it is a provocation," she said at the briefing.
The diplomat noted that all the throw-ins are an attempt by Western supporters of the conflict to drown out the growing voices for peace talks.
Zakharova recalled that the introduction of peacekeepers to Ukraine is not possible now because there is no agreement of all parties to the conflict, no decision of the UN Security Council (UNSC), and Kiev does not seek to settle the issue. She added that the goal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20) is only to receive additional assistance from the USA.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said that Western politicians rejected the talks as premature and disadvantageous for Kiev, which demonstrates the West's "maniacal desire to continue the conflict to the last Ukrainian."
Earlier, on December 20, the US newspaper The Washington Post reported that the EU refused to introduce peacekeeping forces to Ukraine under the NATO flag because it would require consensus among the alliance's countries. In addition, Europe realizes that acting on behalf of the bloc would have angered Russia.
Reuters reported on Dec. 18 that European leaders were discussing sending 100,000 military personnel to Ukraine in the event of a cease-fire and the signing of a peace agreement. The next day, on December 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy(his term of office expired on May 20) said that during a meeting with Macron he had discussed Paris's initiative to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine.
On December 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov reminded that it was premature to talk about sending peacekeepers to Ukraine because Kiev was still unwilling to resume negotiations. For her part, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said that EU countries were not discussing such actions.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
