Extreme temperatures, both high and low, cause loss of moisture and changes in the composition and activity of skin cells. Alas, the damaged cells then need a long recovery time. Natalya Mikhailova, PhD, dermatovenerologist, scientific director of MARTINEX, told Izvestia on December 26 about facial skin protection during frosty weather.

"If you notice that your skin has turned white and is already losing sensitivity, go indoors and gently warm it up. It is desirable not to rub the skin, not to put something hot to it, so you can damage the vessels," - explained Mikhailova.

According to her, low temperatures significantly disrupt the epidermal barrier, which leads to drying and cracking of the skin, because of which it loses its protective functions. Also, people with a predisposition to allergies in winter can aggravate dermatoses and systemic skin diseases.

In skin diseases, the epidermal barrier is unable to resist unfavorable weather conditions. In such a situation, it is difficult for the skin to recover. For washing should be used only soft and delicate means that do not cause injury and gently cleanse the skin. If the skin is dry, sensitive, flaky or exacerbations of diseases such as eczema or psoriasis, intensify in the cold season, it is important to choose special products - more oily, containing softening components, such as emollients, the expert noted.

"Very often people think that it is not necessary to use skin moisturizers in the cold season. On the contrary, it is necessary to apply them more actively in the winter period. If your skin is dehydrated, it is desirable that the moisturizer is denser than at other times of the year," - concluded Mikhailova.

Earlier, on December 18, dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist of the network of clinics "Semeynaya" Irina Marchenko told "Izvestia" about fatal mistakes in face care in winter. According to her, regular use of sunscreen can contribute to premature aging of the skin under the influence of light. Therefore, before going outdoors, especially if a long walk is planned, it is recommended to check the UV level, she specified.
