Court extends arrest of ex-Sovfed senator Savelyev for 2.5 months


The court extended the arrest of former Federation Council Senator Dmitry Savelyev for 2.5 months. This was reported by the Izvestiya correspondent from the courtroom on December 25.
It is specified that the court session was held in closed mode. On Wednesday, December 25, the Basmanny Court of Moscow considered the investigation's petition to extend the period of detention. Savelyev will be under arrest until March 19.
Savelyev was detained on August 2 on his way out of a meeting of the Federation Council, and his immunity was lifted. According to investigators, in August 2023, the ex-senator instructed his acquaintance to organize the murder of a businessman because of personal animosity. On this fact a criminal case was initiated under part 3 of article 33, part 1 of article 30, paragraph "z" part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of preparation for murder").
Dmitry Savelyev was a deputy of the State Duma of the sixth convocation until 2016, in 2021 he was appointed a senator from the government of the Tula region.
