The first patrol icebreaker "Ivan Papanin" is planned to be handed over to the Russian Navy in 2025. Andrei Bystrov, acting CEO of Admiralty Shipyards, told reporters on December 25.

According to the department, a number of tests are currently being completed on the icebreaker.

"The first ship (Project 23550 Ivan Papanin. - Ed.) will be delivered before August next year. After the holidays we will go out to test the flight complex and to the north," Bystrov said after the launching ceremony of the second ship in the series of Project 23550 "Nikolai Zubov" held in St. Petersburg.

Earlier, November 8, it was reported that the combat icebreaker "Ivan Papanin" Project 23550 can perform a wide range of tasks, from military to humanitarian. It is possible to conduct both patrolling and interception, act as an icebreaker, as a tugboat, as a rescue vessel. The ship is equipped with a 76-millimeter automatic artillery system, a helipad and hangars for drones.
