In Kuban the regional emergency regime was introduced due to the release of oil products. This was announced by the Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev on Wednesday, December 25.

"Decided from today to introduce a regional emergency regime. The regional headquarters will be headed by my Deputy Igor Galala," - wrote the head of the region in Telegram-channel.

According to him, the release of oil products on the coast of Anapa and Temryuksky district continues. According to experts' forecasts, most of the fuel oil should have remained at the bottom of the Black Sea, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, fuel oil rises to the surface and ends up on the beach.

The head of the region also expressed gratitude to volunteers and local residents for their help in eliminating the consequences of pollution. At present, the situation remains tense, he added.

Earlier, on December 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the situation with the elimination of the consequences of the fuel spill in the Black Sea is under the attention of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Peskov called the incident an environmental catastrophe and noted that additional resources would be needed to eliminate the consequences.

The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 due to bad weather. As a result of the incident there was a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. Two criminal cases were initiated over the incident, one of which was reclassified as more serious.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, on Putin's instructions, created a working group to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency with tankers in the Kerch Strait.

December 23 in Kerch after the accident with tankers in the Black Sea introduced a state of emergency of a municipal nature. Then it became known that 54 km of the Black Sea coastline in the Krasnodar region should be cleaned from fuel oil pollution. Later it became known that rescuers and volunteers collected more than 21 thousand tons of fuel oil-contaminated soil on the coast of the Kuban and Crimea. In Krasnodar region more than 24 thousand square meters of water area was cleaned. specialists collected 25 tons of oily liquid and installed 200 m of booms.
