Owners of Apple smartphones are much more active in using online banking services than owners of Android-based gadgets. This was reported by specialists of the operator Megafon, who studied the anonymized data of users.

As the researchers found out, the total volume of traffic on banking services and applications increased more than one and a half times year-on-year in the past year. Experts explain this by the increase in the number of services provided by banks, as well as by the simplification of the process of obtaining services, which attracted older users. Thus, there were 23% more online bank customers aged 61-70 years old, and people over 70 years old - by 42% more than last year.

The greatest increase in the number of online customers was registered among iPhone owners. From January to mid-December of this year, this indicator grew by a quarter compared to the same period in 2023. Owners of Android-based devices, consuming online banking services, increased by only 13%.

In total, 91% of the mobile operator's subscribers with smartphones or tablets used banking applications and online versions of personal offices on average in January-December 2024.

iOS devices account for 22% of the total number of online banking users and consume 30% of the traffic, while Android devices account for 72% and consume only 66% of the traffic.

The fact that Apple device owners are downloading and transferring more is confirmed by analyzing traffic over the past two years. Consumption for 2024 to the same period in 2022 increased by 150% on iOS and only 105% on Android.
