China urged the Philippines to remove as soon as possible from its territory the U.S. system Typhon, which can launch medium-range missiles. The press service of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Manila said on December 25.

"This region needs peace and prosperity, not medium-range missiles and confrontation," the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

China asked the Philippine authorities to "heed the calls of the countries and peoples of the region, remove the Typhon medium-range missile system as soon as possible and not to go further down the wrong path."

Earlier, on December 9, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui told Izvestia that the deployment of U.S. medium-range Typhon missile systems in the Philippines threatens the security of the entire Asia-Pacific region.

TheUS deployed the Typhon system in the Philippines in April 2024. This is the first deployment of US medium-range missiles outside the country and in the Asia-Pacific region since the end of the Cold War, as well as the first deployment of such weapons since Washington withdrew from the Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missile Elimination Treaty (INF) in 2019.
