A severe storm has hit the California coast, causing the death of a man and the destruction of a marina. About it on Tuesday, December 24, reports the Associated Press (AP).

Two others are reported missing. The U.S. Coast Guard in the Los Angeles area is searching for them as it found an overturned boat. In Santa Cruz, where a marina partially collapsed the day before, most beaches were cordoned off as they were flooded.

The National Meteorological Service warned of dangerous waves over 10 meters high.

"Large waves can suddenly cover the beach, carrying people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches," the statement said.

Earlier, on November 29, the Turkish-flagged oil tanker Kadriye Ana ran aground off the coast of Istanbul due to a powerful storm. The vessel was in danger of wrecking, so the crew, consisting of 12 people, was evacuated. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
