The Ukrainian authorities intend to amend the country's legislation to strengthen control over the use of the state language on the Internet. This was reported on December 24 by the Ukrainian edition of "Novosti Live".

"We have to fight for the consciousness of Ukrainian children who use Russian programs, be it cartoons, TV series, mobile applications, say, in such widespread social networks as TikTok. For this purpose, I think Ukrainian legislation will be significantly changed, because the issue of regulating the Ukrainian language on the Internet is one of the components of our entry into the European community," the language ombudsman of Ukraine, Taras Kremin, said.

However, he did not specify which provisions are planned to be introduced into the legislation.

Earlier, on 19 December, the ombudsman for the protection of the state language of Ukraine, Taras Kremin, said that there were signs of slowing down Ukrainianization in the country. He noted that the younger generation uses Ukrainian less and less often in everyday life.

Before that, on 24 October, former Ukrainian MP and member of the international public movement "The Other Ukraine" Spyrydon Kilinkarov in a conversation with Izvestiya pointed to an increase in the Russian-speaking population in the west of the country.

In December 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a bill on national minorities, tightening restrictions on the use of the Russian language in the country. Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a law banning the Russian language on May 15, 2019. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly noted the absurdity of Kiev's attempts to cancel Russian culture.
