- Trump's purchase of Greenland would be the largest acquisition of territory in U.S. history

The purchase of Greenland by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will be the largest acquisition of territory in history, surpassing even the acquisition of Louisiana in 1803, which at the time almost doubled the state's territory. This was reported by the New York Post (NYP) on December 24.
It points out that Greenland is slightly larger than the state of Louisiana, which Washington acquired in a deal struck between President Thomas Jefferson and France.
"For reasons of national security and freedom around the world, the United States of America believes that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity," Trump said.
The people of Greenland will likely be presented with the Trump administration's plan to improve their economic situation as well as their continued self-government, followed by a vote to accept the plan, which will then be ratified by the Copenhagen parliament before the transfer of power.
In addition, Trump also announced other possible U.S. acquisitions, saying over the weekend that Washington may try to reclaim the Panama Canal Zone, which was given to Panama in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter.
Earlier on Dec. 22, Trump, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark, stressed that for the U.S. "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity." The American politician expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark back in 2019. At that time, he was turned down.
On December 22, Trump announced that the US will demand the return of control over the Panama Canal if the terms of its use are not revised. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino said it was impossible to return the canal to US ownership.
In addition, on December 10, Trump said that Canada and Mexico could become US states. After that, on December 17, the media reported that Canada would spend $900 million to secure the border with the United States.
