MTPL repair period may be increased to 45 days in 2025

Increasing the repair period under CMTPL insurance to 45 days will help fix about twice as many cars, the head of the All-Russian Union of Insurers and the Russian Union of Auto Insurers, Yevgeny Ufimtsev, told Izvestia in an interview. However, he emphasized that this one change "will not cure the market". It is necessary to carry out a serious reform of natural compensation under CMTPL insurance.

The proposal to increase the repair period for MTPL insurance is correct, Ufimtsev believes.

"I think that at the beginning of next year the second reading of the relevant bill will take place, and in 2025 the repair period for CMTPL insurance may already be increased to 45 days," he said.

Now, due to the increased delivery time of spare parts, it is extremely difficult for insurers to repair the car in 30 days, Ufimtsev explained. Only parts are delivered on average from three weeks to several months. Therefore, not every car can be repaired even in 45 days.

Initially, insurers offered to allocate the period of spare parts delivery from the repair time, but they came to such a compromise, he noted.
