Former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl, head of the Geopolitical Observatory on Russia's Key Issues (G.O.R.K.I. Center of St. Petersburg State University), told journalists that Europe did not perceive the signal that the Russian Federation gave by testing the Oreshnik medium-range missile system. She said this during the presentation of her book "Requiem for Europe" held at the Mayakovsky Library in St. Petersburg on December 24.

"Unfortunately, I can note that [European countries] have not understood this message," TASS quoted Kneissl as saying.

According to her, the West also did not perceive the message of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who spoke about the absence of intentions to launch a nuclear war. The former Austrian foreign minister pointed out that there are many other options in the arsenal that could have a comparable effect to nuclear weapons.

At the same time, Kneissl stated her fears of sabotage and terrorist attacks that could continue as the conflict continues.

Earlier, on December 19, during the "Results of the Year" Putin said that the enemy has no chance to shoot down the Oreshnik missiles. In response to such assertions by some Western experts, he proposed a technological experiment - a "high-tech duel of the 21st century," in which air defense and missile defense forces would concentrate on one site, and the Russian military would strike there with the Oreshnik.

Putin announced the combat test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, on Nov. 21. The step was taken in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. The head of state then clarified that Russia would continue testing and that a decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
