The Ministry of Transport said that the sunken tankers violated seasonal sailing restrictions

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239", which crashed in the Kerch Strait, were in the water area during the season of restrictions on navigation. This was reported in the Telegram-channel of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation on December 24.

"During the inspection of Rostransnadzor it was found that both vessels were in the Kerch Strait in violation of their seasonal restrictions on navigation in the water area," - stated in the message.

It is also noted that several tankers of Volgatransneft were not included in the license for transportation of dangerous goods.

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels. It was specified that one person died.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, created a working group to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident with tankers in the Kerch Strait.
