Participant of the Olympics-2022, snowboarder from Switzerland Sophie Hediger died as a result of an avalanche in the Alps at the age of 26. This is reported on December 24 on the website of the Swiss Ski Federation Swiss-Ski.

"We are stunned and our thoughts go out to Sophie's family, to whom we extend our deepest condolences," said Swiss-Ski CEO Walter Reusser.

It is reported that the federation will not provide any further information about the athlete's death, and asks that the privacy of the mourners be respected.

Sophie Hediger competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing but was eliminated at the 1/8 finals stage. She was a two-time World Cup medalist and won the 2023 Universiade.

Earlier, in April this year, a sports coach was killed in a road accident in the Krasnodar region. The accident occurred when a 44-year-old driver drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into another car carrying four cycling athletes aged 12 to 17, as well as their coach.
