Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova on Tuesday, December 24, presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin the concept of museum decoration of the Exchange building, which will become one of the Hermitage's branches and will be dedicated to the military glory of the Russian Federation.
"On your instructions, we have started the restoration of the Exchange building, which was transferred to the State Hermitage Museum in 2016. In 2025 it will be 220 years since the construction of this unique building, which is located in a unique place - in the widest place of the Neva River, on the arrow of Vasilyevsky Island," Golikova told the head of state.
Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that it would be desirable to complete the restoration by next year, because in addition to the 220th anniversary of the building, there will also be the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The State Hermitage Museum received permission to begin work on strengthening the foundation of the Exchange building on Vasilievsky Island in St. Petersburg in mid-June 2019. The Exchange building is recognized as an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. It was built in the early XIX century according to the project of architect Tom de Thomon. From 1939 to 2014, the Central Naval Museum was located there. Since then, the building has not been used.
Earlier on Tuesday, Putin presented the Director of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky with the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" of the first degree. The head of the museum was awarded "for his great contribution to the development of national culture and art and many years of fruitful activity"
