- Kovalchuk calls Oreshnik a symbol of Russia's technological leadership

Technological sovereignty is an essential component of the state priority in Russia. This statement was made by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center (NRC) Kurchatov Institute, in a conversation with Izvestia on December 24. Mikhail Kovalchuk.
He called the medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik" a symbol of the country's technological leadership.
"The state priority today <...>, its essential part, is technological sovereignty: if you are technologically dependent, you cannot be sovereign, especially today. For example, our weapon of choice today is hypersonics. "The hazel demonstrates our not just technological sovereignty, but technological leadership. We are out of reach," Kovalchuk noted.
The head of the Kurchatov Institute attributed this to the presence of deep science and traditions in Russia.
"We have the potential in the field of thermonuclear research, plasma technologies - I can tell you responsibly - the best in the world," he concluded.
Earlier, on November 28, Kovalchuk said that Europe is now "screwed" without Russian scientists, to whom it forbids joint projects. Speaking at the plenary session of the IV Congress of Young Scientists, he noted that the European scientific program was once practically created thanks to the contribution of the Russian side.
