Expert gives advice in case of spilling alcohol on a smartphone

Modern smartphones have protection against fresh water, but alcohol can become dangerous for the device if it is spilled on the phone. Timofei Voronin, deputy director for technology transfer at the NTI Competence Center for Big Data Storage and Analysis Technologies, told Izvestia on December 25 about actions to take if a gadget is spilled with alcohol.

"Non-strong alcohol is a threat to smartphones due to the presence of sugar, which can clog the charging port or speakers. Strong alcohol is dangerous precisely because of its high alcohol content, as alcohol can violate the integrity of the case and reduce the degree of moisture protection of the phone," Voronin explained.

According to him, if the phone got a small amount of alcohol, for example, on the protective glass or case, it is enough to carefully clean this place. However, if the device was poured with alcohol, it is worth following this plan of action: turn off the phone, rinse it with a small volume of clean water, dry it and then contact the service center to reduce the risk of damage to the moisture protection.

"To protect yourself from such situations, you need to use protective cases and glasses, as well as consume alcohol in reasonable amounts, especially on New Year's holidays," Voronin summarized.
