On December 30, 2024 at 19:00 the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra will present the traditional concert "New Year with the MAGASO" in the Great Hall of the Conservatory. The MGSASO will transport listeners into the enchanting world of festive Vienna to the music of the Strauss family and their contemporaries. At the conductor's desk is the famous maestro of Russia and the world, Fabio Mastrangelo.

Fabio Mastrangelo: "The Strausses are a great dynasty, it's hard to say which of their music is better. Each of the Strausses has contributed to the glory of the dynasty. I was lucky enough to study in Vienna with the great conductor and teacher Karl Esterreicher, a continuator of the great Viennese tradition. For a month he gave us a serious master class, passing on the traditions of the Viennese waltz. The maestro revealed the secret of how to play the second lobe in a waltz so that it sounds Viennese. This style is in the DNA of Viennese musicians. In terms of interpretation, Viennese waltzes are more complex than French, Italian, Russian waltzes. Some of my favorite works of the Strauss dynasty include the waltzes "Wine, Women and Songs" and "An Artist's Life." Conducting the Strauss polkas is a great pleasure, I especially love the fast polkas - "Thunder and Lightning, Trick Truck", they are very cheerful. Personally, I have Strauss waltzes in first place and polkas in second place. We should not forget that Johann Strauss - son has great overtures to operettas. "Die Fledermaus" is a most difficult work for the orchestra, musicians and conductor alike. It is not easy to perform it stylistically correct".

It is the conductor's prerogative to offer the audience a rarely performed or little-known work from his personal collection of scores. The maestro's New Year's Eve highlight is a favorite among connoisseurs of Viennese musical culture. In 2024, in addition to the immortal works of Strauss, the program will feature works by composers Franz von Zuppe, Emil Waldteufel, Franz Lehar and Luigi Arditi. Listeners will be fully immersed in the world of Viennese music.

The New Year's Eve evening will give listeners a sense of magic for the whole of the coming year 2025.
