Criminal case opened after accident with Russian ship in the Mediterranean Sea

Law enforcement authorities have initiated a criminal case on the fact of violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of water transport in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. This was reported on December 24 by the Western Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport of the IC of Russia.

"<...> A criminal case has been initiated on the signs of a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of water transport, causing the death of more than two people by negligence)," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

In the near future law enforcement agencies will establish the circumstances of the incident.

About the crash of the Russian ship in the Mediterranean Sea became known on the same day. As a result of the incident, two people are missing, 14 crew members were rescued.

According to the media, the ship left St. Petersburg 12 days ago and was on its way to Vladivostok, where it was supposed to arrive on January 12.

The Russian embassy in Spain is investigating the causes of the Ursa Major dry cargo ship wreck between Spain and Algeria. Authorities from the Russian Federation are in constant contact with their Spanish counterparts.
