Restricting voice calls via messengers will not help in the fight against fraudsters. This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy, first deputy chairman of the Committee on Information Technologies Alexander Yushchenko on Tuesday, December 24.

According to him, to protect Russians from fraudsters will help only work with the population.

"Fraudsters both called and will continue to call. To fight them we need to increase the general literacy of the population, increase the general digital culture," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

He noted that such restrictions will have a negative impact only on the users themselves, but at the same time will not stop attackers.

"Let's cancel cellular communication altogether, then scammers will definitely not call anyone. <...> But I haven't heard about such initiatives. Perhaps it does not correspond to reality," Yushchenko admitted.

Earlier in the day it was reported that the Russian authorities are considering imposing restrictions on voice calls in messengers due to the increased activity of scammers, according to 360.ru.

It is specified that about 40% of calls in messengers are fraudulent and 70% of them come from abroad, RT reports. The following scenarios are being considered: blocking voice traffic only from abroad and a complete ban on voice calls in messengers, according to the website kp.ru.

Earlier, on December 21, the leading analyst of the Digital Risk Protection department of F.A.S.S.T. company. Evgeny Egorov said that fraudsters began to steal accounts in Telegram by sending false job offers on behalf of well-known companies. According to him, this scheme, as in most other cases, is aimed at stealing money.

In addition to stealing money from accounts, attackers can distribute malicious software, attract traffic to phishing resources or collect a database for sale, the expert warned.
