Japan and UK give Ukraine $1 bln in aid

Japan together with the UK have sent Ukraine $1bn in financial aid. This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal on December 24.
"Ukraine has received $1 billion from Japan and the UK. The tranche came under guarantees from the governments of these states in the framework of the DPL program of the World Bank," - said Shmygal in his Telegram-channel.
He noted that the funds received would be used to strengthen Ukraine's economy, as well as to finance priority expenditures in the social and humanitarian spheres.
Earlier, on December 19, it became known that the UK intends to provide Ukraine with a new aid package worth $286m. The new military aid package to the Kiev regime will include $115m worth of equipment to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy, namely small boats, reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned surface vessels, barrage munitions and UAVs for mine warfare.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
