US President-elect Donald Trump talks a lot about resolving the crisis in Ukraine, and it is worth waiting for him to take real action on this issue. In addition, the United States has always behaved as an adversary of the Russian Federation, regardless of who headed the state. Alexei Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the Defense Committee, pointed this out in a conversation with Izvestia on December 24.

The day before, future special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg (who will take office at Trump's inauguration) said on Fox Business that Trump wants a just, reliable and sustainable peace in Ukraine.

"So far, all we've heard from Trump and his team are words, and devoid of any specifics. Some of them, of course, were said in the heat of the election race and cannot be considered quite adequate. What sounds now seems reasonable enough, but we should wait for some business, formalized proposals, meetings and negotiations," Zhuravlev commented.

He also emphasized that the Russian side has repeatedly expressed its desire to end the conflict, but the views of Moscow and the West on a just peace in Ukraine sometimes diverge radically.

"We should not forget that the United States is our largest geopolitical adversary, which, changing presidents, does not change the general extremely negative attitude towards our country," the interlocutor of the publication noted.

Thus, he recalled, Trump has already headed the White House, but at that time the relations between the United States and Russia did not warm up. Against this background, the rhetoric of the American leader should not be overestimated, the deputy concluded.

Earlier, on December 22, Trump said that he was waiting for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to start negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The Republican added that if he were in the place of current US President Joe Biden, he would not have allowed such a crisis at all.

At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated the next day that there were no real impulses for a meeting between the Russian leader and the Republican.

The election of the 47th president of the United States took place on November 5. In the nationwide vote, Trump received 51% of the vote. The voting results were met with prolonged applause at Trump's campaign headquarters. Speaking to supporters, the Republican said that his goal as head of state is to end military conflicts in the world.

The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.
