Russian detained at Sri Lankan airport for smuggling cannabis


A Russian citizen was detained at Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka while trying to smuggle cannabis. The Daily Mirror reported on December 24.
"The 34-year-old foreign national, who introduced himself as an IT specialist, was detained by officers of the police narcotics bureau at the airport," the newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, the suspect, who arrived at the airport on a SriLankan Airlines flight from Bangkok, had been cultivating, processing and distributing the drug in different countries.
A total of 1 kg and 50 g of cannabis was found in the man's luggage, the Daily Mirror pointed out.
It is specified that the Russian was taken to the headquarters of the national police for further investigation.
