Court sentences TV hostess Lazareva to 6.5 years in prison for justifying terrorism


TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva (recognized in Russia as a foreign agent, included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) was sentenced in absentia to 6.5 years in a penal colony in the case of public justification of terrorism. This was reported by Izvestia correspondent from the courtroom on Tuesday, December 24.
The journalist was found guilty under part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public justification of terrorism"). She was also deprived of the right to engage in activities related to the placement of information, administration of sites and channels on the Internet for four years.
The case of Lazareva, who was arrested in absentia and is on international wanted list, was considered by the 2nd Western District Military Court. The TV presenter's lawyer said that she did not admit guilt. Both witnesses in the case did not appear at the hearing.
The case against Lazareva on public calls for terrorist activities was initiated on June 17. On July 10, Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow arrested her in absentia, and on October 11, the former TV host was put on an international wanted list.
Rosfinmonitoring added Lazareva to the list of terrorists and extremists on June 19. In July 2022, the Russian Ministry of Justice included her in the register of individuals-foreign agents.
