A psychologist has warned of the risks of New Year's Eve depression

It is believed that the time before the New Year is a special period that brings joy. Most people think that the process of preparing for the holiday brings much more happiness than the day itself. Psychologist, gestalt therapist Elena Masolova told Izvestia on December 25 about how to avoid New Year's Eve depression.
"If you have noticed a constant or recurring feeling of sadness arising during the New Year season, you are most likely subject to this very depression. Such an emotional state can vary in intensity and duration," Masolova explained.
According to her, this mood is caused by the fact that the end of December is perceived as a period to evaluate the past year. If the results do not bring joy or a person is not able to focus on positive results, but, on the contrary, emphasizes his failures, then in this case, negative feelings become a constant accompanying condition at the end of the year and a person begins to feel dissatisfaction and the feeling that the year has passed in vain.
Also one of the reasons contributing to New Year's Eve depression is financial instability, known as financial stress. It's important to stick to your financial budget, staying within its limits and avoiding debt.
"Your emotional well-being and that of your loved ones is far more important than the gifts you are chasing everywhere. Try to stick to your daily regimen as much as possible during this time. The most important thing is to get enough sleep, in no case forget about your meals. Do not skip lunch, forgetting to eat, you aggravate your emotional state", - said the psychologist.
According to the specialist, it is important not to neglect walks in the fresh air, self-care rituals and should focus on the positive aspects of the passing year.
"Praise yourself for goals achieved and don't berate yourself if any goals were not met. Often the goals and objectives we set for the year become unprioritized for us and there is no point in accomplishing them. This is often why we do not achieve them," Masolova summarized.
Earlier, on December 24, Maria Ignatieva, the head of the support service of the "Yasno" service, told Izvestia on December 24 about how to prevent burnout on the eve of the New Year. According to her, it is important to learn to prioritize and let go of perfectionism. Close those things that are really important and let the rest be moved to the next year.
