The Russian Avangard missile system is virtually impossible to intercept. Military Watch (MW) magazine reported on December 24.

"The engine design of the hypersonic direct-flow air-jet-powered planning vehicle allows it to deliver nuclear strikes at speeds in excess of Mach 27 while maintaining high maneuverability. It is believed that this makes it virtually inaccessible for interception," - stated in the material.

The publication noted that on December 18 it was confirmed the rearming of the division of intercontinental ballistic missiles to hypersonic planning combat units Avangard. According to the Journal, this marked a further expansion of the arsenal of "unique strategic nuclear carriers."

The Mirror edition on the same day noted that Western countries need to pay close attention to this complex, Gazeta.Ru specifies.

The creation of Avangard was first announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in March 2018.

Earlier, on December 17, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev told about the tests of long-range missiles. He indicated that in the future it is planned to emphasize missile divisions that are equipped with mobile-based complexes. The colonel general called such complexes the most effective due to their high maneuverability.

In September, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov called the combat capability of the Strategic Missile Forces a decisive factor in the country's security. He emphasized that to maintain high combat readiness, the Strategic Missile Forces are being equipped with advanced missile systems. The Avangard, Sarmat and Yars complexes are in service.
