From next year, foreign students will be obliged to pass a test in Russian language for admission to Russian universities. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko on December 24.

It is specified that this measure will take effect from April 1, 2025. The corresponding order was signed by the head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov.

Chernyshenko told "RIA Novosti" that currently 380 thousand foreign students are studying in Russian universities. He also added that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin set a task to increase the number of foreign students in the country's universities to at least 500 thousand by 2030.

Earlier, on October 16, Victoria Pechkovskaya, dean of the faculty of the Higher School of Management and Innovation at Lomonosov Moscow State University, said that MSU has foreign students at almost all faculties. According to her, the largest number of them come to study in specialties related to foreign languages and regional studies.

In turn, Associate Professor of the Department of Business Informatics of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Andrei Gaidamaka said that the educational institution traditionally has a large number of foreign students. A significant part of them are representatives of the CIS countries, Africa and Asia. Citizens of Western countries come to study less frequently.
