Six AFU drones attacked Melitopol in Zaporizhzhya region


The city of Melitopol in Zaporizhzhya region was attacked by six drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), five of them were shot down. This was reported by the head of the region Yevgeny Balitsky on December 24.
"This night the enemy made an attempt to attack the administrative center of Zaporizhzhya region the city of Melitopol with jet aircraft-type UAVs. There were six attacks in total, five UAVs were shot down on the approach to the city, the detonation occurred at a distance from the residential sector," the governor wrote in his Telegram channel.
He added that there were no casualties, but fragments of one of the drones damaged the roof of the building of the Central market of Melitopol.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that overnight air defense forces shot down three Ukrainian drones over the Rostov region and one over the Voronezh region.
The day before, on December 23, the Defense Ministry reported two eliminated UAVs over the Sea of Azov. Shortly before that, the ministry said that air defense forces destroyed nine drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in Rostov Region. The attack was repelled between 20:40 and 21:20 Moscow time.
Ukrainian militants are trying to strike Russian territories against the backdrop of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
