- A Guatemalan national has been charged with arson and murdering a woman on the New York City subway system

33-year-old illegal migrant, a citizen of Guatemala was charged with arson and murder of a woman in a subway car in New York City. This was reported by CNN on December 23.
According to the New York Police Department, on December 22, the attacker Sebastian Sapeta-Kalil approached the woman and, without saying a word, set fire to her clothes, which burst into flames in seconds. The CCTV footage shows him sitting on a bench and watching the woman burning.
Sources informed that investigators who arrived at the scene initially assumed that the fire was accidental after noticing that there were bottles of alcohol near the deceased. However, after reviewing surveillance video from the subway car, police spotted the suspect sitting across from the victim, who was asleep. They were the only passengers.
Police released the surveillance images to the public, and three New York City high school students recognized the suspect and called police. Upon arrest, a lighter was found in the suspect's pocket. The man is charged with first and second-degree murder and first-degree arson.
Earlier, on December 11, in the UK, 20-year-old forensics student Nasen Saadi killed 34-year-old Amy Gray and wounded 38-year-old Lynn Miles for the sake of an experiment to understand the psychology of killers. According to investigators, Saadi wanted to experience what it was like to take a life.
