Danish MPs condemned Trump's words about buying Greenland

Members of the Danish Parliament called the words of US President-elect Donald Trump about the need to acquire Greenland unacceptable and a characteristic of "cynical superpower policy". The Danish broadcaster DR reported that on December 23.
"It is unacceptable for an allied country to start dreaming of seizing control of Danish territory," said MP Rasmus Jarlov.
He also pointed out the hostility of Trump's words towards Denmark and Greenland. According to Jarlov, this is not an example of relations between free democratic allied countries.
Member of Parliament Carsten Hønge said the president-elect's intentions were a sign of a "crude and cynical superpower policy."
On the same day, Greenland Prime Minister Muthe Egede criticized US President-elect Donald Trump's call for control of the island. He added that Greenland should not lose in its long struggle for freedom.
The day before, Trump, announcing the appointment of an ambassador to Denmark, emphasized that for the US "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity." The American politician expressed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark back in 2019. At that time, he was turned down.
On December 22, Trump announced that the US will demand the return of control over the Panama Canal if the terms of its use are not revised. Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino said it was impossible to return the canal to US ownership.
In addition, on December 10, Trump said that Canada and Mexico could become US states. After that, on December 17, the media reported that Canada would spend $900 million to secure the border with the United States.
