The possibility of a visit of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to Russia is now being worked out. Alexander Ilyukhin, first secretary of the Russian Embassy in Nicaragua and head of the El Salvador office, told Izvestia.

"The possibility of organizing the visit is being worked out, the mood of both our countries is positive, but its practical implementation depends on the confluence of many factors and the current international situation. One such factor will be, in particular, what the initial period of [ U.S. President-elect] Donald Trump's administration will turn out to be like. Various details of a negative nature may arise unexpectedly," Ilyukhin said.

Bukele's interest in visiting Russia became known back in June 2024. Then during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Salvadoran Vice President Felix Ulloa said that his country would be happy to welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin on its territory, and also conveyed Bukele's interest to make a return visit.
