Trump condemned Biden for commuting the sentences of 37 death row inmates

US President-elect Donald Trump has harshly condemned current White House chief of staff Joe Biden 's decision to commute the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates, Reuters reported on December 23.
"These men are among the worst murderers, and this disgusting decision by Joe Biden represents a slap in the face to the victims, their families and loved ones," according to a statement released by Stephen Chung, communications director for Trump's transition team.
The document emphasizes that the Republican supports the rule of law when he officially takes office as US president.
Biden's actions will derail Trump's plans to expand the use of the death penalty: unlike executive orders, clemency decisions cannot be overturned by the president's successor.
It became known on December 23 that US President Joe Biden softened the punishment for prisoners. The White House specified that the sentences will be reclassified to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. The current head of state believes that the United States at the federal level should stop using the death penalty. The exception in this matter are cases of terrorism and mass killings motivated by hatred.
Earlier, on December 12, it was reported that the U.S. President commuted sentences for 1.5 thousand citizens and pardoned 39 prisoners, which is the largest number for the day among heads of state. He granted pardons to citizens who were positively affected by imprisonment and released those people who expressed a desire to make society safer.
