Russian citizen may be executed in Bali for drug distribution


Bali authorities have charged Russian Evgeny Karamyshev with attempted drug distribution. The highest penalty on this charge - up to the death penalty. About it on Monday, December 23, reports the Jakarta Globe portal.
"The Bali Provincial Anti-Narcotics Office detained Russian Evgeny Karamyshev,<...> while attempting to distribute 223.15 grams of hashish. The authorities believe that the drugs were intended for sale," - stated in the material of the publication.
On charges of drug trafficking can face a penalty that implies the death penalty or imprisonment up to 20 years in prison.
The Russian was detained along with the evidence, after which he was interrogated. A search of his rented room led to the discovery of other drugs, including 24 packages of hashish, 10 bags of marijuana, five psilocybin mushrooms, 36 bags of white crystals, as well as methamphetamine, cocaine and MDMA.
The head of Bali's anti-drug office, Made Sinar Sumbawa, said the investigation is ongoing. According to the statement, Karamyshev admitted that he had been involved in distribution for more than a year and that he received the drugs from Thailand.
"We are continuing the investigation to uncover a larger Russian-Balinese drug trafficking network and apprehend the main drug traffickers behind this operation," Sumbawa said.
Earlier, on October 10, the head of cryptocurrency company Gotbit, Alexey Andryunin, was detained in Portugal at the request of the United States on charges of money laundering. Gotbit was found to have provided market manipulation and fictitious trading services to several cryptocurrency companies, including in the United States.
