A US citizen received six years in prison for kidnapping a child in Kaliningrad. This was reported on December 23 in the Telegram-channel of the Kaliningrad regional court.

It is noted that in July 2023 the American came to Kaliningrad to meet his son, who is a citizen of Russia. Without the consent of the mother, the defendant intended to take the child out of the country by car.

"While trying to cross the border through the forest and swampy terrain, the man was detained by officers of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Kaliningrad region," the court said in a statement.

On the fact of the incident a criminal case was initiated under paragraph "e" of part 2 of article 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Kidnapping of a person, committed against a person known to be a minor") and part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Kidnapping of a person, committed against a person known to be a minor"). 1 article 322 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted crossing of the State border of the Russian Federation").

The press service of the Kaliningrad Regional Court specified that the citizen of the United States was sentenced to six years' imprisonment in a penal colony of strict regime, as well as a fine of 100 thousand rubles.

Earlier, on November 30, the Investigative Committee (IC) in Moscow opened a criminal case against a man accused of kidnapping two minors and extorting money from them.

According to the investigation, the man, threatening two teenagers with a gun, demanded from them 120 thousand rubles, then forced them to get into his car, drove the teenagers to the sports stadium and, firing a shot in the air, set a condition - to give him the requested amount by December 5 this year.
