Putin invited Iran's president to visit Russia in early 2025

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev at a meeting with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian handed him an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to pay an official visit to Russia "in the first days of 2025". This was reported in the press service of the Iranian president on December 23.

It also noted the readiness of the Russian side to negotiate and organize the trip of the Iranian president. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Transport Minister Roman Starovoit and Russian Railways head Oleg Belozerov.

Earlier in the day, a Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Ministers Vitaly Savelyev and Alexei Overchuk arrived in Tehran on a working visit. During the trip, they will meet with Pezeshkian, Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh.

Earlier, on December 5, Putin held a telephone conversation with Pezeshkian, and they focused their conversation on the worsening situation in Syria. In addition, the presidents discussed the development of partnership between Moscow and Tehran in various sectors, taking into account the agreements that Putin and Pezeshkian reached at their meeting in Kazan at the BRICS summit on October 23.

Prior to that, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko shared on November 24 that the comprehensive treaty between Russia and Iran will meet the challenges and requirements of modern times. According to him, the document will cover almost all spheres of Russian-Iranian cooperation, including defense and security.

In late October, the Russian and Iranian presidents met at the BRICS summit in Kazan. Putin said at the time that the ties between the two countries were on the rise and were friendly, and that the first trip to Russia by the president of the Islamic republic since he took office was symbolic. At their previous meeting the same month, the Russian leader said he was also expecting Pezeshkian to pay an official visit to Russia.
