- The head of the Ministry of Economic Development suggested that two or three car plants could be left in Russia

It is possible to leave no more than two or three large automobile plants in the Russian car industry, which will be distinguished by competitiveness, profitability and high localization. This was stated by Maxim Reshetnikov, head of the Ministry of Economic Development, in an interview with Expert magazine, which was published on December 23.
"We should not think that we have no other markets but the Russian one. Yes, Western markets are closed to us. But there are fast-growing economies of the Global South. African countries, India, Iran, the Arab world. The faster they develop, the more of our products they will consume. This is not only resources, but also food, engineering, chemistry," Reshetnikov said.
The head of the Ministry of Economic Development noted that the Russian market should not fixate only on Russian technologies, as there should be competition. He drew attention to the fact that after the change of suppliers on the market became a lot of Chinese products.
Earlier in the day it was reported that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko offered the assistance of Belarusian specialists in the production of cars "Moskvich," in particular, in terms of auto components.
November 27, it became known that the restart of the former Toyota plant in St. Petersburg will not take place in 2024, as previously announced. The information about the postponement was confirmed by the deputy head of the Committee on Industrial Policy, Innovation and Trade of St. Petersburg Alexei Yakovlev.
