The main New Year's tree was decorated in Moscow

A New Year's tree was dressed up in Moscow 's Cathedral Square on December 23.

"The Christmas tree is unique. Already at the last press conference we talked about the fact that it was chosen for a long time. It was a lot of work. And it is very important that we have preserved the tradition, the fact that there is a live Russian Christmas tree on Cathedral Square," said Pavel Zubov, deputy head of the main maintenance department of the President of the Russian Federation.

It is reported that work on the search for a Christmas tree began back in the summer. The main selection criteria were the appearance of the tree, lack of damage and ease of transportation.

Zubov said that the Christmas tree is not only a holiday element, but also an environmental project, as after the holidays the wood of the tree will be used to create souvenirs, and new Christmas trees will be grown from the seeds of cones.

More than 2.5 thousand toys and 2 kilometers of garlands were placed on the tree. This year attention was paid to small decorations, and the theme of Christmas tree decoration reflects different traditions of Russia. The main Christmas tree has become a symbol of hope, goodness and expectation of magic for all Russians.
