If a car gets stuck on ice, cat litter or salt can help to get out of the trap. Auto.ru auto experts told Izvestia on December 23. Specialists warned that on ice, the car can not only lose control, but also stall if at least one drive wheel hit a slippery spill. This is especially true for small rises or ruts.

"You can throw a handful of sand, gravel, or soil under the tugging wheel. If there is a store nearby, you can buy salt, which will help melt the ice, or cat litter box filler - it is a strong absorbent, it will work like sand, increasing the grip of the tires," experts explained.

To get out of a snowdrift, if you don't have a shovel handy, on a front-wheel-drive car it's helpful to slightly wiggle the steering wheel left-to-right to allow the tires to catch enough traction, experts advised.

"On rear-wheel drive cars, on the other hand, it is better to keep the steering wheel straight and swing the car like a pendulum by moving back and forth. The force of inertia will help the car pull out. It is important to avoid too much slippage of the rear wheels. As improvised means will be suitable mats from the cabin: they can be placed under the tugging wheel to improve traction," - they noted.

December 18, auto expert Pavel Konstantinov said that warming up the engine without going on the road increases its wear. Prolonged idling can lead to the formation of carbon deposits on the cylinder walls and spark plugs, which reduces the efficiency of the motor and reduces its life.

December 11, auto expert Andrei Egarmin explained that the installation of cardboard in front of the engine cooling radiators can lead to serious consequences. Due to the restriction of air flow, there is a risk of engine overheating, which can lead to engine damage, deformation of the cylinder head and other critical malfunctions.
