The Kremlin denied rumors about Assad's wife's desire to leave Russia

Rumors that the wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Asma allegedly wants to divorce and leave Russia are not true. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on December 23.
"No, it does not," Peskov said in response to a question whether such information corresponds to reality.
Earlier, on December 8, Reuters spread a report citing data allegedly from Syrian army officers that Assad, leaving Syria, allegedly could have died in a plane crash. At the same time, the same day it turned out that the former president was in Moscow with his family.
Later, on December 17, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that behind this fake Reuters report were the intelligence services of countries that would benefit from chaos in Syria. The publication of such false "news" could help them to solve some point tasks.
On December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of the head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.
The situation in Syria escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants.
