Head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov said that the number of budget seats in higher educational institutions (HEI) of the country will increase in 2025. The head of the department told about it on December 23.

"We are increasing the number of places for 2025. <...> We have positive dynamics in the number of budget seats for engineering and technical directions, they will be 248.5 thousand - a little more even than in 2024", - said Falkov on air of TV channel "Russia-24".

He stressed that it is important to take into account not only the number of budget seats in universities, but also the quality of education and the content of educational programs. That is why universities are now actively working with schools.

Falkov added that it is impossible to provide quality education in various fields if schoolchildren are not motivated to gain knowledge in various sciences.

On December 17, Falkov said that the coming year 2025 will be dedicated to the transition to a new model of higher education.

Earlier this summer, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that Russian higher education institutions announced additional admission for 5.8 thousand budgetary places as part of the admission campaign. It was reported that a total of more than 620 thousand budget places were envisaged for the new academic year, of which about 30 thousand in 39 universities in new regions.
