Court in Murmansk upholds sentence of Chibis governor's attacker

Murmansk regional court upheld the sentence of 13 years in a strict regime colony for Alexander Bydanov, who attacked the regional governor Andrei Chibis with a knife. This was reported to "Izvestia" in court on December 23.
The appeal of the defendant was left without satisfaction.
Bydanov was sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime colony on October 24.
During the hearing, he admitted that he wanted to kill Chibis, not to harm his health. When asked by the judge whether the defendant agrees that he committed a premeditated act aimed at causing the death of the governor, he answered in the affirmative.
Earlier, on April 5, Chibis, who attacked the governor, said during interrogation that he had a personal dislike for him, although he did not personally know the official. He explained his act with this phrase.
The attack on Chibis was committed in the evening of April 4. On the way out of the building of the House of Culture "Stroitel" after a meeting in Apatity with local residents, the governor was wounded in the stomach. He was urgently hospitalized and operated on. Bydanov was detained and interrogated.
On April 12, Chibis was discharged from the hospital, and on April 18 he returned to work. On June 3, the head of the region published a photo showing a scar on his abdomen from a knife wound he received during the assassination attempt. On August 6, during a conversation with Chibis, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked about the governor's well-being. The official noted that he was undergoing rehabilitation "on the job".
