AvtoVAZ starts production of Lada Niva Sport SUVs

AvtoVAZ has launched commercial production of the classic SUV Lada Niva in a new Sport modification. This is stated in the message of the car company, which was received by Izvestia on December 23. At the first stage, all Niva Sport produced will be delivered to the relevant functional divisions of AvtoVAZ for testing and confirmation of design characteristics.

Lada Niva Sport features sporty suspension and brake settings, as well as the original powertrain: the SUV is equipped with a 16-valve engine with an output of 122 hp (151 Nm at 5000 rpm). The engine is located longitudinally and is combined with a modernized manual transmission (reinforced fifth gear pinions, reinforced clutch housing, single-lever drive transfer case). The interior trim is made in a contrasting sporty style.

The assembly of the new modification will be handled by the division "Lada Sport", on the assembly line of which AvtoVAZ supplies painted bodies of "Niva". The company promised to disclose information about the timing of the start of sales, prices and configurations later.

On November 28, AvtoVAZ announced that it will unveil a new B+ segment crossover on the Lada Vesta platform in summer 2025 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). A key project in 2025 will be the launch of Lada Iskra production, and one of the nearest new products will be the Niva Sport SUV, the company said. Upgrades to popular models are also planned, including the introduction of a more modern 1.8-liter engine on the Niva family.
