Hungarian foreign minister says Trump has no need for mediators on Ukraine

US President-elect Donald Trump does not need mediators to try to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on December 23.
"I know, or I think I know President Trump as someone who does not need any mediators," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Sijjarto noted that if there is a need for mediation in this situation, it requires agreement on all sides, which the minister does not see now.
The diplomat also commented on the possibility of the Hungarian Prime Minister to become a mediator between Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky (term expired on May 20). In this regard, Szijjártó wondered why Trump would not contact Putin and Zelensky directly.
The day before, Trump said at a conference that he was waiting for a meeting with Putin to discuss the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, the official representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov clarified that at the moment there were no real impulses to organize such talks.
Earlier, on December 16, the US president-elect said that he intended to initiate talks with Putin and Zelensky. On December 19, the Russian leader noted during the "Results of the Year" that he would meet with Trump and expressed readiness for negotiations on the basis of the Istanbul agreements.
