Slovakia is harmed by the position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term expired on May 20), who supports sanctions against Russia's nuclear industry and jeopardizes the operation of Slovak nuclear power plants, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said on December 23.

"The Ukrainian president also supports sanctions against the Russian nuclear program. This attitude causes financial damage to Slovakia and jeopardizes the production of electricity at nuclear power plants in Slovakia," he wrote on Facebook (owned by the recognized extremist company Meta, its activities are banned in Russia) following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Fitzo added that he considered Zelensky's approach unacceptable, "Gazeta.Ru" specifies.

On the eve of Putin and Fitzo held talks in the Kremlin. The Slovakian prime minister called his visit to Russia a reaction to Zelensky's statement about the termination of gas transit through the Ukrainian territory. During the meeting, the Russian leader said that Russia was ready to supply gas to Slovakia directly after January 1, 2025. The topic of conflict resolution in Ukraine was also touched upon.

Member of the European Parliament from Slovakia Luboš Blaga expressed the opinion that Fitzo's trip to Moscow is a "slap in the face for arrogance" for Zelensky. In his turn, German political analyst Christoph Herstel said in a conversation with Izvestiya that Fitzo had responded to the West's threats with his visit.

Earlier, on December 20, Fitzo said that Slovakia would block possible EU sanctions against the Russian nuclear power industry. He reminded that Slovak nuclear power plants are of Russian origin.
