Japan's Iwakuni Airport temporarily closed its runway after reports of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) possibly in the airspace. This was reported by NHK TV channel on December 23.

It is specified that, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, "several drones landed" at Iwakuni Kintaibashi Airport, which is used by the U.S. military and civilian forces in the city of Iwakuni, as a result of which the runway was temporarily inaccessible.

The TV station specified that flight reception resumed about an hour after the runway was closed. However, due to reports of possible drones, the flight from Tokyo was diverted to Hiroshima Airport for landing and refueling. At Iwakuni, the plane landed with a delay of about three hours, the publication added.

Earlier, on December 14, it was reported that unidentified drones disrupted the work of the international airport Stewart in the state of New York. So, because of the drones closed the runways of the airport for an hour.

US President-elect Donald Trump on December 13 accused the White House of withholding information about drones over the states and called to shoot them down. Earlier, the US administration reported that they could not identify the drones that appeared in the skies over New Jersey for a week.

About unknown drones over New Jersey became known earlier, on December 11. Then Senator from the state of New Jersey John Bramnick called for a state of emergency to ban the use of drones in response to numerous reports of unknown aircraft spotted in recent weeks.
